C4 photosynthesis in action. A field of young maize growing in the moist, fertile soils of Bavaria and creating lots of biomass in a short time.

The foliage is bright because of the special properties of the chlorophyll-containing structures in leaves which very efficiently avoid absorbing infrared light above a wavelength of 700nm.
