Wintergreen Lifesaver Sparks

Just to see if I could get an image. I used pliers to crush the lifesaver as the exposure was going on.You can see the vague outline of the pliers. Wish there was less noise, but I did succeed.

The sparks are a phenomenon called triboluminescence.The combination of methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen) and sugar has the property of emitting light when crushed , in your mouth, or with pliers...
