Further work on selective stacking, alignment, sharpening and careful management of 'curves' to show the prominences at the limb and also on the disc (darker grey filaments).

The prominences seen at the limb appear dark when projected against the solar disc. This is in spite of the fact that the gas in them is hotter than the gas in the low chromosphere. It turns out that the emission in the H-alpha line is more dependent on the continuum radiation it sees from the photosphere (cooler than the chromosphere) than on the actual temperature of the gas in the prominence.
