Pyritized Ammonite Detail...
This is a cross-section of an ammonite cephalopod fossil, from Russia. Unfortunately the ammonites from this locale soon begin to crumble because of acids formed by breakdown of the pyrite. My mineral dealer is very honest, and told me not to buy this one, so I asked if I could take a photo.
