Delphinium flower
family Ranunculaceae
The transmission spectrum of a delphinium flower (pressed for 3 days). The two spectra shown are of a purple area - position 2 - and an average of two blue areas - positions 1 and 3. The colour is due to the anthocyanin pigment, delphinidin. You can see how the increase in strength of the absorption in the green - position 2 - leads to a change in colour from blue to purple.
