Wattenläufer

Sommerurlauber im Wattenmeer vor Büsum. Die 10 km weit entfernte Küstenlinie von Friedrichskoog-Spitze auf der anderen Seite der Meldorfer Bucht scheint hier viel dichter zu sein als sonst - vermutlich eine optische Täuschung durch Luftspiegelung (sichtbar unterhalb des Deiches). Dieser Effekt ist häufig über dem Wattenmeer zu beobachten, wenn es bei Ebbe von der Sonne erhitzt wird und dann bei Flut wieder abkühlt.

Summer tourists on the wadden sea at Büsum. The shoreline in the distance is about 6.2 miles across the Meldorf Bay and looks much closer than it usually does - probably an optical illusion caused by a mirage on this hot summer day (you can see the mirage below the dike). This effect can be observed frequently as air warms quickly over the mud flats of the wadden sea and cools again when the incoming tide covers the area with water.
