Hokkaido Stella Blue squash, flower side

Cucurbita maxima Duchesne subsp. maxima convar. maxima cv. "Hokkaido Stella Blue"

I'm using the full formal name partly because I learned the use of the "convar." specifier (it stands for "convarietas" and refers to a grouping within a subspecies - squashes require this level of granularity because there are so very many varieties). Anyway, we planted these in the Seattle garden in June, as a ground cover to (we had hoped) smother some weeds; the ground cover idea didn't work out so well, but we did get about a bushel and a half of squash.
