Alfred Bernhard Nobel (1833-1896)

Alfred Nobel was a Swedish chemist and engineer, famed for developing dynamite (TNT), a relatively safe form in which to use the explosive nitroglycerine. Armaments manufacture made him enormously wealthy, and his will directed that his fortune be used to establish the Nobel Prizes.
