NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer orbiting spacecraft, launched in 2003, took this image of galaxy M81 in ultraviolet light. The wisps of bluish-white swirling around are hot, young stars.

M81 is 12 million light-years away in the northern constellation Ursa Major. This image was acquired in 2007.
