Great Auk
Great Auk
From: National Museum Cardiff
The Great Auk is, unfortunately, an example of our unsustainable use of wildlife. It used to exist in colonies numbering millions of birds but huge numbers were slaughtered for their feathers and within a few years these colonies were wiped out. The last known sighting of a Great Auk was off Iceland in 1844.
