Eye of the aye aye: Fluorescent Retina
Inspired by a design by Bob Fosbury, a model of the lemur's retina is shown here.
The top row shows a model of the tapetum lucidum which lies directly behind the retina and works to aid the lemur to see in low light.

The "retina" consists of a 2.75" dia. watch glass with a small amount of riboflavin crystalline-solution acting as the tapetum lucidum.
The left image was taken under white light, the middle image was taken under blue LED light and the right image was taken under UVa and blue LED light.
The bottom row shows the retina being used as a projection screen. A cutout of a paper hawk on the ceiling was illuminated by blue LED light and the image was focused onto the surface of the retina using a small magnifying glass.
The left image was taken under blue LED light with no filter.
The center image was taken under blue LED light with a yellow filter.
The right image was taken under blue LED light with a red filter.
