Complete map of England and Wales produced by William Smith in 1815.
The Smith Map is the first geological map created by William Smith in 1815 and the oldest map of Britain completed by a single geologist. The Museum holds the largest collection of William Smith maps in the world. These are critical documents to the history of the science of geology and the evolution of its understanding in Britain.
