Compact Disc between polarizers

Shown here is the center of a polycarbonate compact disc between polarizers. The interference spoke pattern shows a maximum when the polarizers are perpendicular.

P denotes the polarization of the light behind the CD. A denotes the polarization of the analyzing polarizer.

The spoke pattern rotates in the opposite direction and at half the rate compared to the analyzer polarizer.
