Commentary by Mike Fitzpatrick:
Let's see...clockwise from bottom left I see: a typewriter, telegraph key, electric trolley, electrical generating dynamo, power industrial machinery, telephone, electric light bulb, treadle sewing machine, camera, threshing machine (or is it a power loom?), steam locomotive and horseless carriage. But there are three big inventions that came along just before the turn of the century that I am surprised are not represented: the phonograph, motion pictures and radio. All of these, it could be argued, are the precursors to our modern age of digital data storage and transmittal.
